Input into search box be carried over when you hit the magnifying glass

It would be convenient to be able to put the number/part of a number into the search box, then hit the magnifying glass and the search to be executed at that point, instead of hitting the spy glass first then entering the search information. I feel like I am entering all info twice as that's the usual set up for spy glass search functions.
