Loving the new UX for the WUI and was excited about the improvements (and potentially starting to change over from the GUI) but without the shortcuts box it just makes it so inefficient.
We have used these short cut options for years and they're well known by staff and embedded into training manuals, forms etc. We understand that there is a search option, but it's not as quick and efficient. For example we have a simple short AP to take us to the AP enquiry screen - but if you type that into the search function you get nothing. You need to type more information specific to the naming in the menu.
Again I understand we can set up favourites, but if I did this for every shortcut I use I would use up all the screen real estate and you still have to find each one in the list instead of simply type.
The other advantage for users such as myself that often need to assist other staff is you don't have to go in and out of the menu. I can come out of the screen I'm in, hit a shortcut and go where I need to quickly to assist, and then when I come out of that menu I'm still where I was in the menu and don't have to navigate through again.
I don't know if others use this as much as we do, but taking such a long term functionality away without understanding how it's going to impact users is pretty frustrating and has dampened the enthusiasm for getting into the new version of the WUI and testing it out.

thanks Alex, There are definitely pros and cons for using the web version.
All these ideas will feed into our thinking for ongoing UX improvments.

This is one of two reasons I (and 90% of our users) never use the WUI. Accelerator command is fantastic for speeding up data entry. In the GUI I'm always held up by the screen catching up to my keystrokes! The number of times I type something like F3/21/10/GEQ each day to Fast Exit, Change WKID, Enter new WKID, go to GL inquiry for example is huge.
Swapping between keyboard and mouse is super inefficient as others have pointed out.
I like the suggestion to achieve the same thing by being able to type into the menu search box then hit enter.
The general ability to move around the WUI screen with the keyboard is nowhere near as functional as the GUI. For example, not being able to use the arrow keys in a filter section is painful. This could possibly be fixed by changing the Tab order so instead of running across the page it runs down and across eg Date From->Date To rather than Date From->Age in an AP inquiry.
Let me think about that Emma. If we can change the focus position after
dynamic search then it may be possible.
Will get back to you. This could be useful even if not using the shortcut
method you described.
thanks
Andrew
Hi
To try and get around this i have put our shortcut keys as the 1st name in the menu name so that when you typ the code in the search for function box it appears 1st
Is there any way that when you search for function and only one pops up you could press enter to select it rather than having to click on it?
Hi Natalie,
Keyboard shortcuts do exist within the product.
F3 works like Home
F12 works like back
F4 works for a search in modern programs but not all older programs.
F8 works like toggle in most cases where there is a toggle actions option.
F5 Refresh in most cases where there is a Refresh actions option.
F6 Modify in most cases where there is a Modify actions option.
Enter works like OK in most cases
Page up and Page down
Tab
Accelerator commands were a legacy feature and not widely used across the customer base. Unfortunately we have had to phase out this feature to maintain our SOC2 security framework compliance rating and it has unfotunately impacted a couple of customers.
Currently we have no concrete feature on the roadmap to implement more keyboard shortcuts but I can tell you that “User Experience” and “Information Experience” are permanent categories in our Roadmap each year and we are always thinking of ways we can improve.
In our Roadmap to commence in the second half of this year are the GUI, WUI Excel upload parity project, and an Excel and report formatting uplift.
thanks

While I don't use these shortcuts (I didn't know they were previously available, otherwise I would have) But is it likely that there will become more keyboard short cuts available throughout all use of jobpac? I find throughout jobpac, I am constantly switching between keyboard and mouse, which really slows down data entry and moving from screen to screen. I made this suggestion some time ago but hadn't heard from you if it is on the radar or not.
Hi Christina,
Can you log that as a case please and it will be channeled as support issue to the dev team.
Add on the case that I have asked for an immediate escalation for you.
The F4 should work from the Landing page.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Trying to at least use the F4 option but it's not working. I've logged out and back in and it comes up the first time, but as I navigate through screens and come back to the landing page and try F4 it's not coming up.
Regards
Christina
Hi David,
I do apologise for that, but for the reasons mentioned earlier in the thread below, Accelerator commands will be phased out completely over time.
The future, it is anticipated, will include improvements to the navigation of Favourite’s, but at this stage not the reintroduction of accelerator commands.
Once again I apologies for the inconvenience and we would be happy to help with training on Favourite’s operation if it helps by webex.
Thanks
Andrew

Thanks, Andrew but the F4 option doesn't cut it, too many keystrokes and mouse functionality - my team are extremely handicapped by the loss of this function. Please escalate to bring it back ASAP please - take this post as representing 180 user votes from McNab.

Hi Guys,
Apologies. We will continue to monitor the situation.
As mentioned it was not a decision we took lightly, knowing that some customers use the accelerator command feature, but necessary in order to keep our SOC2 Security compliance rating.
Unfortunately within the cloud we have to comply with strict security framework policies and our customers expect that from their cloud service provider.
We have attempted to minimize impact by making accelerator commands available via F4 from the landing page but this will be phased out over time too, the less people use it.
We feel genuinely that our Favourites option and dynamic search feature in the Web version provides a solution that is very close to the old Accelerator commands and in some cases faster. This is because you can access a favourite option without having to fast exit and leave a program. This means that (fast Exit + 3 letters + enter) can be reduced to “One Single Click”.
The dynamic search allows you to type the first letters of any program and the filtered list of menu options appears and narrows down the more you type. You can then select with a single click without having to use fast exit from the previous program.
Jobpac Classic remains, for now, a solution for your users if they decide the Accelerator command is an indispensable and overriding feature above other features that the Web brings.
But as the old GUI moves into classic mode we would encourage you to embrace the Web version which will be our platform for the future and future improvements.
Once again apologies for any inconvenience as we try to progress the Viewpoint One Integrated solutions experience.
Thanks
Andrew

Good Morning Andrew,
Disappointing to read this response, couldn't agree more with Christina.
I would reiterate it would be useful to understand how customers use your system before you take something away. We as a business use the shortcut function every day and are now finding the backwards step highly inefficient and like Christina will have to re write all our systems/process documentation.
Most of our users are going back to the desktop version and the expense of the web version, simply to get the shortcut option back. We would obviously prefer this not to happen!
Apologies for that Christina. There are other reasons the Accelerator Command feature required rethink in consideration to our SOC2 Security framework compliance. We know this has affected a few people and it is not a decision we took lightly. We are increasing the number of favourites possible to 20 or 30 over the next few days and we hope this will alleviate the concern for most people. And we hope you can see our overall commitment to user experience improvement. If we can improve further we will. We can talk further on the matter next time we catch up.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
That's disappointing. Making me re-think whether we should trust going all-in with FieldView and Team at this stage. I was wanting to start transitioning over to the WUI to take advantage of single sign in etc and because FV & Team will be in the cloud but now I'm back to having to work in two places and this brings up the issue of using additional CUL's if that's the case.
Perhaps it would be useful to understand how customers use your system before you take something away. Favourites is not a valid replacement for me or the average project user.
Got it thanks Christina. I will consider, but at this stage no plans and would encourage Favourites for the average user.
thanks

Hi Andrew,
We currently have about 80 setup in our system which will be used to varying degrees by different staff depending on their role (and yes I remember them all because they're mostly intuitive - ie BFM = BFM Screen, SCP = Subcontract Pmt, CWIP = CWIP Enquiry, TB = Trial Balance, TE = Timesheet Entry, CC = Cost Centres, PCO = Progress Claim Orig Entry, REG = Register Invoices, DB = Setup Debtor, CR = Creditor Enquiry to name a few).
For users like myself I would use a considerable number of these every day. For our average project level user there is a lesser number, but still all the high entry areas are easily covered. We also have a lot for our accounting / AP staff for items and reports they do all the time.
It was a functionality that's been there from the beginning so I've always made the most of it and it's so inherent to how we quickly go from one function to the next, so it's pretty hard to lose without an impact.
Cheers
Christina
Got it.
How many shortcuts would each person remember and use?
Andrew
ANDREW TUCKER Sr. Product Manager APAC
Hi Andrew,
That only comes up with the list. You can't type it in anywhere and have to scroll through and select them - unless I'm missing something. Still not as efficient as simply typing AP or another shortcut and you're straight there.
Cheers
Christina
Hi Christina,
The shortcut option is still there for customers who need it! Simply hit F4 when on the landing page and it brings up the task box.
Thanks for the feedback Christina.
Andrew
